As the collective voice of Ohio credit unions, the Ohio Credit Union League remains committed to advocating for policies that protect and strengthen the Credit Union Movement.

To that end, the League recently activated the first phase of our grassroots outreach to Ohio congress members to protect the credit union federal tax exemption. The League sent personalized letters from credit union CEOs and League President Paul Mercer to all 17 members of congress outlining the benefits that credit unions provide to local communities and economies and pushing for the protection of the current credit union tax status. As not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperatives, credit unions exist solely to serve their members, not to generate profits for shareholders.

The U.S. House Ways and Means Committee will continue to deliberate on the extension of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act over the coming weeks. The League will remain engaged with Ohio’s Congressional Delegation, making sure they know how detrimental a tax increase would be to credit unions and members across Ohio.
