With no shortage of policy challenges facing Ohio’s credit unions, face-to-face advocacy is crucial to ensure movement progress and to avoid misguided public policy. This year’s attendees at the 2025 Credit Union Statehouse Day, made up of hill-hiking veterans, young professionals, and volunteers alike, moved the needle by telling the credit union story in front of decision-makers in Columbus. By asking legislators to allow Ohio’s credit unions to go even further with their financial literacy efforts, to provide local partners with more options for financial services, and for enhancements to further strengthen our dual-charter system, credit unions will remain top of mind during the remainder of this General Assembly.
This impactful day further fueled our members’ passion for movement advocacy through a robust agenda where attendees heard from key decision-makers. Kicking the day off with a panel of top officials from the Ohio Division of Financial Institutions, attendees had a chance to ask the state’s top regulator any pressing questions they had about impact on their institutions. Over lunch, credit union attendees connected with legislators from across the state and heard from key leaders including Treasurer of State Robert Sprague (R-Findlay), Senate President Pro Tempore Bill Reineke (R-Tiffin), and Senate Minority Leader Nickie Antonio (D-Lakewood) before wrapping the day up with legislative meetings in the afternoon. If you could not join Credit Union Statehouse Day, don’t miss out on this fall’s top advocacy event, Hike the Hill. Mark your calendars now for Sept. 9-11 with more registration information to come.
