Connecting and building upon relationships is a key tactic to advocacy success. With the state’s biennial operating budget having been passed and now in the rearview mirror, your League has been busy connecting with key members of the legislature. Below is a snapshot of recent advocacy activity. For more in-depth advocacy updates, make sure you are following the advocacy-specific Huddle channel, Advocacy on Point.
- With a state budget win in the form of financial instruction flexibility (allowing students who participate in a student run branch to be excused from the financial literacy graduation requirement), the League supported and connected with House Finance Chairman Brian Stewart (R-Ashville) at a recent fundraiser.
- As now-former House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) is term-limited at the end of the General Assembly, she decided to proactively step aside to allow her caucus to replace her in a smooth transition process. The caucus selected State Rep. Dani Isaacsohn (D-Cincinnati) to replace her as the next House Minority Leader. The League wasted no time and connected with Leader Isaacsohn over coffee to learn more about his priorities for the caucus and build upon an existing relationship.
- The 2026 political cycle is already in full swing, with campaign announcements and endorsements having already taken place. To best position Ohio’s credit unions, the League has already been busy connecting with key officials. One of those is State Auditor Keith Faber (R-Celina), who is running to be the 52nd Attorney General of Ohio. With fraud becoming increasingly prevalent, we connected over the need for consumer protections.
- This morning, the League will be connecting with State Rep. Erika White (D-Springfield Township) along with district credit unions. With Rep. White serving on the House Financial Institutions Committee, it will be a great opportunity to share the top concerns of credit unions and how the state legislature can serve as a strong partner.
