With summer vacations beginning and state and federal legislative sessions wrapping up over the next few weeks, the League has been on the offensive for Ohio’s credit unions. Below is a snapshot of recent advocacy action.

  • To keep credit union champions fighting for your members at the Ohio Statehouse, we must help them get re-elected. That’s why your League and CommStar Credit Union recently attended State Representative Joe Miller’s (D-Amherst) annual golf outing to support his 2024 election efforts and connect him with local credit union leaders on several pressing state issues, such as correcting the new auto title requirements.
  • Your League advocacy team uses meetings with candidates for state office to proactively project the movement’s mission and priorities. In a recent connection hosted by Hancock Federal Credit Union, Ty Mathews (R-Findlay) explained his appreciation for credit unions’ work to assist Ohioans on their homebuying journey.
  • Equally important to engaging state legislators is connecting credit union leaders with top state officials, like Lt. Governor Jon Husted, on how to move Ohio forward through credit unions. Like credit unions, Lt. Governor Husted is committed to advancing communities through local investment, financial literacy, small business support, and housing affordability.
  • Inviting elected officials to credit union branch openings is crucial for fostering strong community ties. Desco Federal Credit Union recently celebrated a new location in Lucasville with State Representative Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County), highlighting how credit unions invest in local economic development while serving the community’s financial needs.
