Establishing and maintaining legislative champion relationships is critical for public policy success and is just as important as investing in future leaders for a brighter Ohio Movement future. To accomplish both, the League partnered with GRID Young Professionals and Central Ohio credit union leaders to host Congresswoman Joyce Betty (D-Columbus) for an advocacy luncheon. As an influential member of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, chairing the Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion, Rep. Beatty provided legislative process insights and shared her thoughts on priority legislation. Credit unions shared the impact the Fair Hiring in Banking Act, sponsored by Rep. Beatty, would bring to workforce development, the unintended consequences of overdraft protection limitations, and how the current interchange system protects consumer data. With ongoing advocacy efforts and new opportunities following the November election, the League will continue working with Rep. Beatty to advance all people, families, businesses, and communities through Ohio credit unions.
