Credit union tax exemption clears another key hurdle

Protecting what makes your credit union unique remains our top advocacy priority. That is why the League has been actively involved in the 2025 budget reconciliation process, particularly as it relates to tax reform.

We are pleased to share that the credit union tax exemption has once again emerged from a key point unscathed. The U.S. Senate Finance Committee has released its initial version of the reconciliation bill, without proposing any changes to the credit union tax status.

This progress is a direct result of your dedication. Your voices, along with those of your members and the League, have resonated powerfully in Washington, D.C. Our national partners, America’s Credit Unions and the American Association of Credit Union Leagues, have been instrumental in amplifying our message and driving a comprehensive, 360-degree advocacy effort.

While the fight is not over, these developments are a strong sign that our collective efforts are working. As the reconciliation process continues, the League will keep you informed every step of the way.

Thank you for your continued commitment and your help in keeping the momentum going!
