Scholarship opportunity details:

The scholarship honors long-time League executive Becky Hart (employed at the League from 1991 to 2015), who passionately believed in the power of credit unions and nurturing of people. It provides funds to hire student interns to work at Ohio credit unions, exposing more young people to the Credit Union Movement as a career opportunity.

Requirements of the scholarship program: the credit union must 1) have the student complete a League-provided credit union philosophy online training course and 2) conduct a philosophy-driven community outreach activity that includes the intern’s participation. The grant is available to any natural-person or corporate credit union domiciled in Ohio to fund up to a 12-week student internship at up to $15/hour with a limit of 40 hours/week. The internship may occur at any time during a calendar year. A credit union may only receive one internship scholarship per calendar year. A maximum of $5,000 will be provided for a single student intern. A credit union must apply in advance of hosting a student intern; grants will not be made in arrears.

Qualifying “students” include anyone attending high school, vocational or technical school, or college. Direct relations (children, spouses, siblings, etc.) of employees or volunteers of the applying credit union are not eligible for the internship scholarship. To be eligible, the student must work with a credit union at which a direct relation is not employed or volunteering.

Please note:

  • Credit unions or CU Outreach Alliances will be reimbursed after the event is successfully completed and a grant results report is received.
  • For grant reimbursement, the credit union must provide:
    • Documentation of hours worked by the student, signed by a member of the credit union’s management team;
    • Proof of student’s completion of League-provided credit union philosophy training; and
    • Details about the philosophy-driven community outreach activity completed by the intern and credit union.
