Access to affordable financial services can be life-changing, especially for families in underserved communities. That is why the League urged Congressman Dave Joyce to preserve $324 million in federal funding for the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund in the FY 2026 budget.

In a letter to Chairman Joyce, we emphasized how the fund empowers 20 certified CDFI credit unions in Ohio to offer small-dollar loans, support first-time homebuyers, and finance local businesses.

CDFI credit unions nationwide held $223 billion in active loans in 2024, leveraging federal dollars to generate more than $12 in private investment for every $1 of federal funding. Without continued support, these programs and the members they serve are at risk.

The League thanked Congressman Joyce for his leadership and reaffirmed the credit union commitment to ensuring all Ohioans have access to the financial tools they need to thrive.
