Support those who support you. It’s a motto the League’s Political Actions Committees (PACs) live by when it comes to ensuring credit unions have a seat at the decision-making table. One of those great supporters during his time in office has been Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana). Currently serving in the influential role of House Judiciary Chairman, Rep. Jordan is running for Speaker of the House following now-former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s ouster; a first in U.S. history. Should Rep. Jordan be successful, Ohio’s credit unions would have an impactful voice in one of the most powerful positions in the United States government with district credit unions having strong personal relationships with the Congressman. As of Wednesday afternoon, the path to Speaker remains uncertain. The League will continue to monitor any developments in the race and update members.
Building relationships and delivering a positive policy impact for Ohio’s credit unions and your members is paramount to our advocacy efforts. Next month, there will be a fun opportunity to do so in partnership with credit union peers across the state. After an incredible, last-minute victory by Ohio’s credit unions last year, the Ohio Credit Union League and the Michigan Credit Union League have decided to battle it out once again to see which League has the most political passion and support. For 13 days (from Nov. 15 to close of business Nov. 27) surrounding the Ohio State v. Michigan game, OCUL will be competing against MCUL in a CULAC PAC fundraising competition to see which state can raise the most to support credit union champions at the congressional level.
More details will follow but, in the meantime, your credit union will need to ensure their CULAC permission agreement is up to date. Additionally, League staff are always happy to provide an advocacy update for your team. Reach out below if you’re unsure of your credit union’s status or would like to schedule an advocacy presentation.
