Ohio communities thrive when the people living in them have access to resources and opportunities that foster greater financial well-being. As member-owned financial institutions, credit unions help families access affordable housing, helping them to build equity and stronger financial futures. Ohioans succeed when they have access to affordable and reliable housing opportunities. To best illustrate the credit union difference, Phil Buell, CEO of Superior Credit Union, and Kurt Neeper, President of Superior Financial Solutions, provided testimony before the Ohio Senate Select Committee on Housing Dec. 11 in Lima.

Your peers highlighted several key recommendations necessary to alleviate Ohio’s housing challenges. Those common themes included additional grants for aspiring homeowners, local tax abatements or credits for developers constructing new homes, and increased investment in infrastructure to accommodate new housing construction. To follow up on this week’s testimony and keep credit unions top of mind, the League recently sent a letter to the Ohio Senate Select Committee on Housing outlining ways credit unions can help the Ohio General Assembly improve housing affordability.

The League will continue sharing with legislators how credit unions are working to solve the state’s housing challenges in this challenging market.
