The Ohio Credit Union League is proudly celebrating 90 years of championing Ohio credit unions. Born out of the early 20th-century cooperative movement, the credit union model provided hope and financial stability for Americans with limited means. In 1931, Ohio passed its Credit Union Law, and by 1934, 25 Ohio credit unions came together in Columbus to form the League. Louise McCarren Herring, the "Mother of Credit Unions," became the League’s first managing director in 1936, leaving a legacy of service and leadership that continues to inspire today. Thank you to our credit unions for their continued confidence and partnership. Here's to many more years of collaboration, service, and making a difference in our communities!
