Maintaining strong relationships with leaders in the statehouse is key to our state advocacy efforts. After now-former Ohio House Minority Leader Emilia Sykes (D-Akron) stepped down from leadership to run for Congress, League staff closely monitored the leadership change to ensure credit unions continued to have a strong presence in the statehouse. Recently, the Democrats held that caucus election, and State Rep. Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) was elected as the new House Minority Leader. A strong credit union champion who previously served on the House Financial Institutions Committee, Leader Russo has been supportive of Ohio’s credit unions during her time in the legislature, and we will continue to look to partner with her and the caucus whenever possible. Rounding out her leadership team were Assistant Minority Leader Thomas West (D-Canton), Minority Whip Jessica Miranda (D-Forest Park), and Assistant Minority Whip Richard Brown (D-Canal Winchester).
