Credit union advocacy strength is built by the willingness of Ohio credit unions to go above and beyond to advocate for 3.2 million Ohioans. Last week, 39 leaders from 23 credit unions joined the League and its partners at Hike the Hill in Washington, D.C., to discuss critical issues impacting Ohio credit unions and members.

Representatives from America’s Credit Unions, Corporate One FCU, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, American Share Insurance and Excess Share Insurance joined Ohio credit union leaders and the League in meetings with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Senator Sherrod Brown, Senator J.D. Vance’s staff, and 11 U.S. House offices.

The 2024 Hike the Hill achieved important outcomes for credit unions and their members. The CFPB provided a better understanding of what we can do as credit union leaders and advocates to better cultivate a regulatory environment where the regulator and regulated collaborate on ways to achieve a safe, fair, and innovative financial services market without unnecessary red tape. We also heard from Senator Brown that bills related to the Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA) and interchange will face an uphill climb in this Congress.

The next day, Senator Brown chaired a hearing in the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs focused on scams and fraud. You can watch the full recording, but Chairman Brown specifically highlighted the work Ohio credit unions are doing in this area (1:02:00 in the video). This is credit union advocacy impact in real-time.

  • Update PZC—Show Congress the power behind more than three million credit union members by securely updating your membership totals.
  • Head back to D.C.—The 2025 Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) is March 2-6, 2025.

We look forward to advocating for credit union growth with you. Please reach out with your questions, advice, and ideas. We’re here to listen and help.
