Trigger lead bills clear key hurdles

Allowing you to do what you do best, serve your members, is at the forefront of the League’s mind when considering policy decisions. A key part of that is making sure your members have the best experience possible when interacting with your credit unions. That is why the League, in partnership with America’s Credit Unions, has been supportive of the Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act, which would ban the use of abusive mortgage trigger leads. The bill would still allow trigger leads under legitimate use, but provides more transparency and accountability for consumers. Recently, the bipartisan companion bills cleared key hurdles in the United States Congress. Both versions (S. 1467 and H.R. 2808) passed their respective chambers unanimously, meaning the leaders of both chambers will now determine which bill will advance out of the other chamber. The League will continue to work alongside America’s Credit Unions to ensure its final passage as soon as possible.
